Whose Revolution?: Multiple Narratives of the American Revolution and Its Legacies in MA
07/22/2025 - 07/23/2025

WHERE & WHEN:

FEE: $50 (breakfast and lunch included)
CREDIT: 45 PDPs or 2 graduate credits with Worcester State University (for an additional fee of $250).

How did individuals, families and communities living through the Revolutionary War make meaning of this time period and the changes it brought to their lives? What did the Revolution mean to their descendants? How do we tell those stories today, and why does it matter?

In this workshop, held at both the Massachusetts Historical Society and Concord Museum, teachers will investigate archival and place-based primary sources and objects from the Revolutionary period to engage multiple perspectives and consider a more complex understanding of the Revolution and its legacies. By prioritizing stories of historically underrepresented groups, this workshop offers an inclusive and a nuanced approach to a seemingly familiar era. At the Massachusetts Historical Society, educators will tour the current MHS exhibit, “1775: Rebels, Rights and Revolution,” and interact directly with primary sources. Educators will leave the workshop with strategies for using primary sources to implement in their classrooms.  Concord Museum will guide educators through tours of their new museum exhibit, “Whose Revolution,” introduce object-based learning techniques, and visit local landscapes for place-based learning.  Concord Museum educators will share a new version of their 250th Revolutionary Museum History Kits for use by teachers in their classrooms.

This program is open to all who work with K-12 students. Teachers can earn either 45 PDPs or 2 graduate credits with Worcester State University (for an additional fee of $250). This event will take place in-person at the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Concord Museum. ASL translation is available upon request during registration (please place requests by July 1).
